Safety Center
Palavra is for making real friends across borders. These rules keep it that way.
The golden rule: never send money. No genuine friend you've met online will ask you for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank details or help with a "fee". If anyone asks, stop replying and report them.
Built-in protections
- Adults only: every member confirms a date of birth showing they're 18+ at sign-up. Dates of birth are never shown.
- Members-only profiles: logged-out visitors and search engines can't see member profiles.
- Block: blocked members can't see your profile, message you, or see your Moments.
- Report: report any profile, message, Moment, comment, letter or forum post. Reports go to our moderators confidentially.
- Friends-only messages: Settings → Privacy lets you stop strangers starting conversations.
- Hide your activity: turn off your online status and hide your age.
- Anti-spam limits on new conversations, posts and letters.
Warning signs of a scam
- Fast, intense affection or talk of love within days
- A story that ends in needing money: medical bills, customs fees, a stuck inheritance, a plane ticket
- Pressure to move to another app, especially WhatsApp or Telegram, very quickly
- "Investment opportunities", trading platforms or crypto tips
- Refusing voice notes or video while claiming to be nearby
Protect your personal information
- Don't share your home address, workplace, ID documents or financial details.
- Be careful with photos that show your address or license plate.
- Use Palavra's slow letters instead of postal mail until you know someone well.
Meeting in person
If you ever meet a pen pal in person: meet in a public place, tell a friend where you'll be, arrange your own transport, and leave if anything feels wrong.
Report a problem
