About Palavra

Palavra is Portuguese for "word". Every friendship across a border starts with one.

Palavra is a free pen pal and language exchange community for adults, built and run from Huntsville, Alabama by Ouro Preto LLC. It combines the patience of old-fashioned pen pals with modern learning tools: native-speaker corrections, real-time chat with voice notes, slow letters that take real travel time, and flashcards built from your own conversations.

What we believe

• Languages are learned with people, not just apps.
• Mistakes are the point. Correcting each other kindly is how everyone improves.
• Slow can be good. A letter you waited for means more than a quick message.
• Safety is not optional. Adults only, real moderation, and privacy by default.

Founding members

Palavra launched in 2026. Everyone who joins in the first wave gets a permanent ★ founding-member badge, and a say in what we build next. Voice rooms are first on the list.
