Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Ouro Preto LLC ("Palavra", "we") collects, uses and protects information when you use palavra.world (the "Service"). Questions: hello@palavra.world.
Information you give us
- Account: email address, password (stored securely by our authentication provider and never visible to us), date of birth (used only to confirm you're 18+ and to calculate your age).
- Profile: display name, username, gender, country, city, bio, languages, interests and optional photo. Profiles are visible only to signed-in members you haven't blocked.
- Content: messages, voice notes, Moments, comments, corrections, letters, forum posts, wall posts, notebook entries and reports.
Information collected automatically
- When you were last active (you can hide this in Settings), and which profiles you viewed (visible to the profile owner as "Visitors").
- Basic technical logs kept by our hosting providers for security and reliability.
- Your theme, accent color and daily goals are stored in your own browser's local storage.
We do not use advertising trackers and do not sell your personal information.
How we use information
- To run the Service: matching, messaging, delivering letters, showing Moments and notifications
- To keep members safe: enforcing the 18+ rule, investigating reports, preventing spam and fraud
- To communicate with you about your account (for example confirmation and password-reset emails)
Translation and speech
Translate buttons use your browser's on-device translator when available. Otherwise the text opens in Google Translate in a new tab, under Google's privacy policy. "Listen" uses your device's built-in speech voices.
Service providers
We use Supabase (database, authentication, file storage) and our web host to provide the Service. They process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. Data may be processed in the United States or other countries where these providers operate.
Retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account. This permanently deletes your profile and the content linked to your account. Backups held by our providers are overwritten on their normal schedule. We may keep limited records where the law requires it or to handle an open safety report.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK or state privacy laws in the US), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or export your data, and to object to certain processing. Email hello@palavra.world and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children
Palavra is only for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, please report it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Database security rules ensure members can only access what they're allowed to see; for example, private messages are visible only to the two people in the conversation, and letters only after they arrive.
Changes
We'll post any changes here and update the effective date. Material changes will be announced in the app.
